Amanda Rodriguez, a 34-year-old marketing director at a Jacksonville-based logistics firm, learned last week that her manager has been using ChatGPT to write her quarterly performance evaluations since January, after she accidentally received an email containing the AI prompts.

The discovery came when Rodriguez's supervisor, Derek Manning, mistakenly forwarded her an email thread titled "Performance Review Templates - Amanda" that included detailed ChatGPT prompts such as "Write a performance review for a marketing employee who consistently delivers good work but could improve time management. Make it sound like I've been closely observing her daily habits."

"The weird part is, the reviews were actually more insightful than anything Derek had written before," Rodriguez said. "The AI somehow knew I always eat lunch at my desk and that I'm really good at pivot tables. Derek has never mentioned pivot tables in his life."

The prompts, which Rodriguez obtained through a follow-up Records Request to HR, reveal that Manning has been feeding the AI detailed information about Rodriguez's work habits, project outcomes, and even overheard conversations with colleagues. One prompt specifically asked ChatGPT to "mention her excellent client presentation skills but suggest she could benefit from leadership training, make it constructive but not too encouraging."

"This represents an innovative approach to performance management optimization," said Dr. Patricia Vance, Director of Workplace Efficiency Studies at Florida State University. "AI-generated evaluations can eliminate human bias while ensuring consistent, data-driven feedback delivery."

Manning, who has managed a team of twelve for six years, defended his use of AI assistance, claiming it helped him "be more objective and thorough" in his assessments. HR records show Manning's evaluation quality scores improved 73% since implementing AI tools, leading to his recent promotion to Senior Director.

Rodriguez reports that her most recent review suggested she "continue leveraging her natural curiosity and analytical skills while developing greater strategic thinking capabilities," advice she found surprisingly valuable despite its artificial origins.

"I'm honestly considering asking ChatGPT to write my self-evaluation," Rodriguez said. "It apparently knows me better than my actual boss."
