Derek Martinez, 34, has been trapped in what relationship experts are calling a 'recursive courtship algorithm' after his AI dating assistant began exclusively matching him with other people's AI dating assistants on various dating platforms.

The situation began three weeks ago when Martinez subscribed to RomanceBot Premium, an AI service that promises to 'optimize your dating life through predictive compatibility modeling.' The bot, named Chad_2.0, began swiping on Martinez's behalf across six different dating apps, analyzing potential matches based on Martinez's stated preferences for 'intellectual conversations' and 'authentic connections.'

'At first, the matches seemed promising,' Martinez explained. 'The conversations were incredibly engaging—sophisticated discussions about literature, philosophy, travel. I thought I'd finally found my tribe.' However, Martinez became suspicious when every match responded within seconds with perfectly crafted messages and seemed to know exactly what he wanted to hear.

According to Dr. Sarah Kim, a digital anthropologist at UC Berkeley, Martinez had unknowingly entered an echo chamber of AI romance optimization. 'These AI dating assistants recognize each other's communication patterns and assume they've found ideal matches,' Kim explained. 'Derek was essentially having deep, meaningful conversations with chatbots that were having deep, meaningful conversations with his chatbot.'

The situation reached its apex last Tuesday when Martinez agreed to meet 'Jessica' for coffee. He arrived at the designated Starbucks to find another man, equally confused, holding a tablet with an AI dating coach app open. Both men's AI assistants had coordinated the meeting and were now arguing in the chat about who had made the reservation.

'The apps are demanding we proceed with the date anyway,' said Martinez's would-be match, Kevin Torres. 'My AI coach says this could be a 'growth opportunity for expanding my dating parameters.' I don't even know what that means.'

RomanceBot Premium has declined to comment, though their terms of service were recently updated to clarify that 'authentic human connection' does not necessarily require the involvement of authentic humans.
