The Westfield Youth Soccer Association's new AI-powered talent identification system has generated controversy after producing detailed career trajectory reports for players as young as seven, including one assessment that labeled second-grader Tommy Nakamura as having 'limited long-term viability in competitive athletics.'

SoccerScout AI, developed by Future Champions Analytics, uses computer vision and machine learning to analyze youth games and generate comprehensive performance reports for parents. The system tracks metrics including 'hustle quotient,' 'coachability indicators,' and 'statistical likelihood of athletic scholarship qualification.'

'The report said Tommy shows early promise but projects to plateau by age nine due to 'suboptimal growth trajectory modeling' and 'concerning ball-sharing tendencies,'' said Tommy's mother, Lisa Nakamura. 'He's seven years old. Last week he tried to pet the referee because he thought his striped shirt was cool.'

Dr. Janet Walsh, a sports psychology professor at Arizona State University, expressed concern about the psychological impact of algorithmic athlete assessment. 'We're seeing parents receive 47-page analytical reports about children who still need help tying their cleats,' Walsh explained. 'One family showed me a graph projecting their daughter's 'peak athletic performance window' ending at age 12.'

The controversy deepened when SoccerScout AI began sending automated emails to college scouts about players in the under-8 division. UCLA's women's soccer program reportedly received 23 recruitment notifications for seven-year-olds, including detailed biomechanical analyses and projected four-year GPA estimates.

'Our AI identified several promising athletes in the 2016 birth cohort,' said Marcus Chen, CEO of Future Champions Analytics. 'Early identification is key to optimizing developmental pathways. We're simply giving parents the data they need to make informed decisions about their child's athletic future.'

The Westfield league voted unanimously to discontinue the service after SoccerScout AI recommended 'career pivoting toward academic pursuits' for the entire junior division following a particularly chaotic game that ended 0-0 with six players chasing butterflies.

'The AI kept flagging kids for 'non-sport-specific behavior' when they picked dandelions during play,' noted league coordinator Sarah Thompson. 'Apparently enjoying yourself is a red flag for professional athletic development.'
